The Brady Township Trustees met in a regular session on Monday, March 23 at the Brady Township Fire Department.

Trustees in attendance were Willis Grime, Jim Eisel, and Timothy Nofziger, along with Fire Chief Justin Smith, Township Road Maintenance Supervisor Dustin Bailey and Fiscal Officer Chrystal Maneval.

Smith asked the trustees to purchase three sets of firefighter protection gear (coat, pants, boots) for the newest firefighters, Elliot Livensparger, Heather Singer, and Beau Zuver.

“They’ve all got their training in and have been with the department for over a year now,” said Smith. “We’re looking to get them new gear.”

The $12,000 cost will come from the township’s general fund, though Smith said he hopes to pursue grant funding to offset the expense.

The protection gear, which will be purchased from Municipal Emergency Services, will come from the township’s general fund, and the money has already been appropriated.

Eisel made a motion to approve the protection gear purchase, and it passed by a 3-0 vote.

In other action, the trustees approved the purchase of a new garage door from Reliable Metal Buildings of Pioneer at a cost of $14,893.61 for the township’s cold storage shelter building. The door will be installed by A.J. Door of West Unity.

Grime made a motion for a change order reducing the original contract price of $15,443.00 to $14,893.61, reflecting the addition of a door in the southwest corner of the building.

“We want to add on to the motion that we’re going to add on a door in the southwest corner and with the amount being said, the amount is now $14,893.61, instead of $15,443.00,” Grime said.

Trustees heard a concern about multiple instances of illegal dumping on County Road 21.50, with much of the trash — including clothing — deposited in a waterway. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued a citation to those responsible because the dumping occurred in a waterway.

As the chip-and-seal and crack-and-seal road repair season approaches, the township will start crack-and-seal work on four miles of County Roads M-50 and M.

Trustees approved M & M Asphalt of Blakeslee by a 3-0 vote at a cost of $15,150.10 to perform the crack-and-seal work on both roads.

The meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 13, at 7 p.m.
