Brady Township Trustees met in regular session on Monday, May 11, with Chairman Willie Grime calling the meeting to order at 7 p.m.
Roll call followed with trustees Grime, Jim Eisel and Tim Nofziger present. Also present were Fiscal Officer Chrystal Maneval, Oscar Hernandez III and Kailea Holbrook of the Williams County Health Department, County Prosecutor Katie Zartman, Brady Township Fire Chief Nick Smith and township residents, Dave and Kelly Colon, Steve Sauber and Samantha Bowers.
Grime opened up the meeting to residents with concerns regarding property on County Road M. The main concerns involved an adjacent property housing multiple campers with no apparent sewer or water hookups.
Residents noted there had been an increase in trash and rodents on their own properties.
It was noted the health department had been pursuing a solution for some time now and recently an official Public Health Order had been issued noting that those living in the campers must be connected to a sewer by June 21.
If they do not comply, it will then be filed with the county prosecutor as a public health nuisance. Criminal action may be filed, or an injunction and a court order requiring compliance.
As for water, it was understood that water was being hauled in, but this also must be done by a registered water hauler.
Trustees then approved the payment of bills and approved the minutes from the previous meeting.
Approval was given for township resident Shane Sumner to put in tile work in the township’s waterway on County Road M by the township’s standard policy.
Nofziger then made a motion to order 100 tons of stone for the chip and seal work this summer; Eisel seconded. The motion passed 3-0.
Fire Chief Nick Smith spoke about the condition of the Brady Township Fire Department letters on the east side of the building. Smith was looking into prices for replacements; he quoted American Sign Letters at $2,000 for plastic and $3,500 for cast aluminum letters. Trustees suggested getting more prices from other sources.
Grime made a motion to approve the final three sets of turnout gear at $11,853, and four sets of boots at $460.01, thus bringing the total to $12, 313.01. Eisel seconded the motion and it was approved.
A motion was also made by Grime to amend the contract with cemetery contractor, Robert Ford, giving him a $200-a-month increase to cover the cost due to rising gas prices. Eisel seconded the motion and it was approved.
There was no second meeting held on Monday, May 25, due to the Memorial Day holiday. The next regular meeting will be on Monday, June 8, at 7 p.m.
With no further business to come before the board, the meeting was adjourned at 8:48 p.m.
