Data released by Ohio’s Job and Family Services on November 20 and November 24 shows unemployment as remaining relatively steady at the state level, as well as for both Williams and Fulton counties.
Williams County saw a fair decrease from September to October, falling from 4.0% to 3.6% in that time frame and from 4.2% one year ago. Fulton County also a slight decrease over the month, falling from 4.1% to 3.9%. Fulton County’s unemployment was also 4.2% one year ago.
There was also a slight decrease in the number of unemployed statewide. Ohio’s overall unemployment dropped to 4.4% from 4.5% between September and October and from 5.2% one year ago. This has translated into the number of unemployed falling to 249,000 from 254,000 over the month. The number of Ohioans unemployed was listed as 300,000 one year ago.
Over the course of the month, unemployment rates fell in 45 of Ohio’s 88 counties. 23 counties saw rates increase. The remaining 20 saw no change. Counties with the lowest rates included Mercer (2.8%); Holmes (2.9%); Wyandot (3.0%); Auglaize, Delaware, and Hancock (3.1%); Putnam and Union (3.2%); and Medina (3.3%). Counties with the highest rates included Monroe (8.1%); Meigs and Noble (6.8%); and Scioto (6.5%).
The national unemployment rate dropped from 5.1% to 5.0% between September and October and is down from 5.2% one year ago.
Statewide job gains over the last month were seen in education and health services (+8300); leisure and hospitality (+7000); construction (+5800); manufacturing (+5800); professional and business services (+3500); trade transportation and utilities (+2900); financial activities (+2400); and other services (+700). Losses were seen in local government (-4800), state government (-700), and mining and logging (-100). There was no change in information services or federal government jobs over the course of the month.
