Edon Village Council welcomed a few new faces when convening for the first monthly regular session of 2016 on January 18 in Village Chambers.

Joining current members Gale Horn, Lee Lawrence and Dick Chapin were newly-elected officials Mayor Duane Thiel, councilors Mike Lirot and Chip Hulbert along with recently appointed councilor Andy Ledyard. Also in attendance were Village Administrator Randy Mahlman, Fiscal Officer Heidi Bidwell, Solicitor Tom Thompson, Police Chief Tom Szymczak and three guests.

Before moving forward with the evening’s planned agenda, Mayor Thiel administered the oath of office to councilor Ledyard. Selected at last week’s special council meeting, Ledyard, a former member of Edon BPA, will fill the remaining two years (through December 31, 2017) of Thiel’s term on council.

In organizing for the upcoming year, members voted to elect Lee Lawrence council president; approved maintaining the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. as the date and time for regular monthly meetings and agreed to serve on the following Village Committees throughout 2016:

•Finance ~ Gale Horn, Chip Hulbert, Lee Lawrence
•Public Works ~ Gale Horn, Andy Ledyard, Mike Lirot
•Safety ~ Dick Chapin, Andy Ledyard, Mike Lirot
•Park ~ Lee Lawrence (through December 31, 2017)
•Cemetery ~ Chip Hulbert
•Planning Commission ~ Dick Chapin (current council term through December 31, 2020, if applicable.)

Additionally, Roxana Nester will serve as Council’s Member-at-Large Park Board representative; her appointment is through December 31, 2016.

Prepared and ready to face both the challenges and opportunities of the new year, Council proceeded to address the remaining agenda items.
