A plan to replace the grass turf at the Evergreen High School football field to a synthetic turf has the local boosters interested.
Board member Kenneth Kornmanyos presented information from the July 13 meeting hosted by the Evergreen Athletic Boosters.
Brad Morrision, representative from Maumee Bay Turf Center, presented to the group the option of changing the football field to a synthetic turf multi-sports surface.
A synthetic turf surface would allow football, girls soccer, and the marching band to practice and compete on the same field, with minimal annual maintenance costs. The boosters were supportive, but they want more information on what the board is planning to contribute to the project.

Superintendent Jim Wyse read a thank-you letter from American Cancer Society/Relay for Life for a donation of $840 raised by the National Honor Society and Art Club.
Treasurer Denise Leu gave a FY16 year-end update/Investment Report.
The board conducted the following business:
Approved the following petty cash and change funds for 2016-2017 school year (FY17):
Athletic Petty Cash – $3,000

*Accepted the following donations:
Evergreen Music Boosters to Band Club (200-9204) to assist with transportation costs – $138.51.
Lucas Ducat to Evergreen Local School District; new flagpole/landscaping for the softball field valued at $1,170.25.
Rescinded the unsigned Varsity Assistant Football supplemental contract offered to Joe Prchlik and rescinded the unsigned Varsity Assistant Football supplemental contract (one-half contract) offered to Eric Simon on May 9, and offered the following supplemental contracts for the 2016 – 2017 school year, pending completion of all certification/licensure requirements to: Eric Simon – Varsity Assistant – Football; Joe Prchlik – Varsity Assistant – Football (1/2 contract)
*Approved Carrie Brown and Terrie Ketring-Copeland to work as On Board Instructors (OBI), effective June 15. Employment will be on an as-needed basis in order to train and re-certify bus drivers, with extra time logged and paid at their hourly rate.
*Employed Kelley Carmean as an Intervention Tutor using Title II-A funds for the 2016 -17 school year. Employment will be up to 5.75 hours per day for up to 184 days, with an hourly rate of $20 per hour.
*Offered the following mentoring supplemental contracts for 2016 – 17, pending completion of all certification/licensure requirements: Pat Adamski, Amanda Brehm, Jackie Mossing, Mollie Youtzy.
*Employed TJ Rupp on an hourly, as-needed basis for student supervision (primarily during high school lunch) for the 2016 – 2017 school year, at a rate of $27.50 per hour.
*Employed Ann Laney, Ashley Herr and Debra Langenderfer on an hourly, as-needed basis to monitor, tutor or instruct students assigned to an onsite, in-school suspension or enrolled in an Evergreen online program for the 2016 – 2017 school year, at a rate of $27.50 per hour.
*Employed Ann Laney on an hourly, as-needed basis for special education testing for the 2016 – 2017 school year, at a rate of $27.50 per hour.
*Decreased the hours of the following positions due to a restructuring of cafeteria services, beginning with the 2016 – 2017 school year, as follows:
Bev Ackerman (cook) – reduced from 4.5 hours per day to 4.0 hours per day
Debra Campbell (aide) – reduced from 3 hours per day to 2 hours per day
*Authorized Wyse and Leu to purchase one 72-passenger propane fueled bus for $84,838 and a 60-passenger, handicapped accessible, propane fueled bus for $90,322 from Cardinal Bus Sales & Service, Inc., in Lima. The costs include a total trade-in allowance of $5,700 for two old buses, and a $200 early pay discount on each bus purchased.
*Approved Mercy Health Partners as the provider of athletic training services for the 2016 – 2017 school year, at a cost not to exceed $10,000.
Building and Grounds
The maintenance and custodial crew have been working hard to get the facilities ready for the start of another school year. The high school gym has been completely refinished, the elementary school gym has a new topcoat, and a portion of the parking lots will be paved, repaired, lined and sealed. The softball and baseball complex is almost ready for landscaping this fall.
Transportation
Wyse sent his compliments to the transportation department, as well as student workers, in preparing the buses.
*Tony Doble and Angela Infante updated the board on the new website to be released soon as well as other technology initiatives.
The next regular board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 in the Loren Pennington Learning Center.
