Swanton Library Schedules Events For The Month Of September

Thursdays, September 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 10:15 am to 11:45 am – Intro to Yoga. Join us for a series of yoga classes taught by Aimee Strohbeck. Please bring a yoga mat and towel and wear comfortable clothing for easy movement. No experience necessary. Class fee is by donation with proceeds benefiting the library.

Thursdays, September 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm – Chair Yoga. This class involves the same poses done in other yoga classes, but modified to make them gentler while sitting or sometimes standing with a chair for balance and support. Class fee is $5. No yoga mat is required for this class.

Monday, September 5 – Swanton Library is closed for Labor Day.

Thursday, September 8 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm – Family Night. Join us to celebrate the first evening of the FOSPL book sale! Have a free caricature done by local cartoonist Don Lee, participate in a paper airplane contest, and get the first choice at our sale. Light refreshments will also be served.

Friday, September 9 and Saturday, September 10 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm – Friends of the Swanton Public Library Annual Used Media/Book Sale. Select books, movies, audiobooks, CDs and more, and make a donation to the Friends. Sale will be held in the Children’s Program Room at the library. Proceeds benefit library programs.

Mondays, September 12, 19 and 26 from 10:15 am to 11:45 am – Beginning Yoga. This class is slightly more advanced than the Thursday morning yoga class, offering students an opportunity to expand their skill level. Class fee is $10.00 per session with multi-session tickets available. Please bring a yoga mat and towel and wear comfortable clothing.

Mondays, September 12, 19, 26, October 3, 10, and 17 at 4:30 pm – Music & Movement. Music and movement are tied together with literacy in this new family series on Monday afternoons. Sing, dance, play instruments, and read! Focus is on preschool and early grades, but the entire family is welcome. Free!

Mondays, September 12, 19 and 26 from 7:00 pm to 8:15 pm – Evening Yoga. Class fee is $10.00 per session with multi-session tickets available. Students are asked to bring a yoga mat and towel and to wear comfortable clothing.

Tuesdays, September 13, 20, 27, October 4, 11, and 18 at 10:30 am – Storytime. Weekly classes offered at Swanton Library for children ages 6 months to 5 years. Children will learn about favorite characters through stories, music, and crafts. Free. No registration required.

Wednesdays, September 14, 21, 28, October 5, 12, and 19 at 4:00 pm – Storytime. Weekly classes offered at Swanton Library for children ages 1 to 5 years. Children will learn about favorite characters through stories, music, and crafts. Free. No registration required.

Wednesday, September 14 at 4:45 pm – First Board of Library Teens (BOLT) meeting of the school year.

Thursday, September 15 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm – Cardmaking Classes Continue. The cardmaking classes led by Anna Geis have been creative and fun, so we’re offering another. Samples of completed cards are on display at the library. Children over the age of eight, accompanied by an adult, are welcome to attend. The supply fee is $5.00 for 3 cards. Register at the front desk, online, or by phone.

Thursday, September 15 at 7:00 pm – Adult book discussion led by Marty Kaback. This month’s topic is the romance The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks.

Monday, September 19 at 7:00 pm – Swanton Public Library Board of Trustees regular monthly meeting. Open to the public.

Wednesday, September 21 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm – Anime Club for grades 6-12. Join us to watch three episodes of anime(s) chosen by the attendees and make armbands. Popcorn, food, and drinks will also be provided. Participants are welcome to come in cosplay, anime or otherwise. Teens who just completed these grades are invited. Free!

Wednesday, September 21 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm – Financial Aid Questions? Get the Information You Need. Juan Gonzalez from Northwest State Community College will present a free program for students of all ages and for any college. Learn about the options available to you. Please call, come in, or register online.

Saturday, September 24 from 10:30 am to 11:15 am – Ahoy, Maties! for grades K-5. Come to Pirate Day at the library! Hear swashbuckling stories, play pirate-themed games, sample high seas cuisine, and make a pirate craft. Please register online, at the front desk, or by phone. Free.

Wednesday, September 28 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm – Personal Safety Self-Defense Classes. Officer John Roof from the Wauseon Police Department will visit the library for a presentation on personal safety. He’ll cover topics such as self-defense and the law, strategies for keeping yourself safe, and how to avoid confrontation. This class is free and open to all; register by phone, at the circulation desk, or online.
