VARSITY FOOTBALL
Gibsonburg 49, Hilltop 8
The Cadets ended their season with the non-conference contest. Hilltop’s only score came with 7:50 left in the first half with a 21-yard Tyler Suboski run. Suboski threw for the two-point conversion. Quinn Smith was good on five of 15 passes for 75 yards while Suboski was the leading ball carrier with 45 yards on seven carries.
Patrick Henry 41, Wauseon 14
The Indians finished their season 4-6 while the Patriots won the NWOAL title with a perfect 10-0 mark. It was three quick first quarter scores by Patrick Henry that set the tone for the game. They added two more scores before the intermission to have a 35-0 half time advantage. With younger players participating in the second half the Indians found the end zone twice. Their first score came with 10:09 left in the game with a six yard run by Junior Martinez. Andrew Grays kick made the score 35-7. The final score came from a pair of junior varsity players when quarterback Cody Figy threw his first varsity touchdown pass to Levi Seiler. The pass covered 21 yards and Gray gave the Indians their final point of the season with the PAT. Figy ended the night hitting on five of eight passes for 150 yards. The league’s leading rusher, Donny Johnson, led all ball carriers with 166 yards on 16 carries.
Liberty Center 14, Bryan 6
The Golden Bears gave up the Tigers’ 14 points in the fourth quarter. All of Bryan’s points came from the toe of Josh Jones as the senior connected on field goals of 41 and 32 yards. Zac Nobis led Bryan in rushing with 52 yards on 17 carries. Nobis was 11 of 25 passing for 114 yards.
Swanton 42, Delta 7
The Bulldogs finished their 9-1 season with a win at Delta. The Bulldogs ran off 21 unanswered points in the first half before Delta’s Jesse Beverly crossed the goal line with a 35 yard run. Beverly added the kick and the score was 21-7. Gunnar Oakes got the game’s scoring started with a 32-yard pass reception from Marek Spiess. Nick Koback added the point after. Michael Lawniczak found the end zone from two yards out for the Bulldogs second score. The Koback kick made the score 14-0. In the second quarter it was Lawniczak again from four yards out. Koback’s kick put Swanton on top 21-0. The final score of the first half covered 89 yards when Spiess found his brother Brennan Spiess for an 89-yard touchdown pass play. Koback was again good on the point after and the Bulldogs went to the locker room with a 28-7 lead. Swanton added one score in each of the third and fourth quarters. Oakes caught a short four yard pass from Spiess in the third quarter and Chase Avalos had the night’s final score with a four yard run. Marek Spiess ended the night hitting on six of 14 passes for 136 yards and three touchdowns. Jesse Beverly led all rushers as the Delta running back finished his career with 148 yards on 20 carries.
Northwood 37, Montpelier 13
After leading 20-13 at the break, Northwood ran off 17 unanswered points in the second half for the non-conference win. Montpelier’s two scores came in the second quarter. The first, at the 11:54 mark, was on a four yard run by Bryce Cooley. Cooley kicked the extra point to tie the game at 7-7. The Locomotives second score came after a Northwood fumble. The extra point was missed. Zac Mason finished with five of nine pass completions for 54 yards and Cooley led the Locomotives in rushing with 60 yards on 13 carries.
Edgerton 56, Holgate 15
The Bulldogs scores 42 first-half points to bury the Tigers to end their season. Edgerton’s three first quarter scores included: A 40-yard run by Clayton Flagel, a 22-yard run by Braydon Cape and another Cape run covering 20 yards. Cameron Jordan and Derek Blue added extra points. In the second quarter the Bulldogs crossed the goal line three more time with a one-yard Cape run, a 58-yard Cameron Jordan run and a five-yard Cape run. In the second half, Hunter Prince ran for a 25-yard score with Carter Knecht adding the point after touchdown. The final Bulldogs’ score came with an interception by Justice Guillaume. Knecht again was good on the point after. Flagel finished connecting on four of six passes for 45 yards. Cameron Jordan and Clayton Flagel both passed the century mark in rushing as Jordan had 139 yards on just nine carries and Flagel added 102 yards on nine carries.
