Harold R. Rhoads, age 87, of Delta, peacefully passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Swanton Valley Center. He was born January 22, 1929 to the late Harvey Rhoads and Jessie (Patton) Rhoads. Harold spent two years in the Coast Guard and three years in the Army where he served in Korea. After returning home, Harold became a Christian and his life changed. On October 17, 1952 Harold married Evelyn Krohn, in Delta and she survives.
After completing college at Taylor University and Bob Jones University where he received his ministerial degree, Harold attended Bowling Green University to get his teaching degree. Harold pastored a church in Indiana for two years and then at Fulton Union Church in Delta for fourteen years. He was a teacher for twenty-five years, the last twenty being at Delta Schools before retiring in 1987. Harold is a member of Shiloh Christian Union Church and went on several mission trips to Mexico. His favorite hobby for many years was flying his airplanes.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Franklin Rhoads who was killed in France during World War II. Harold is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn; two sons, Ric (Linda) Rhoads of Swanton and Gary Rhoads of Jerry City, Ohio; one daughter, Jodi (Bill) Rabquer, of Delta; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; four sisters, Violet Loar, Bonnie Gibson, Maxine Echler and Janet (Dale) Hill and many nieces and nephews.
To honor Harold’s wishes there will be no public services. Private Interment will take place at Shiloh Cemetery. Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St Hwy 109 in Delta has been entrusted with arrangements.
