Fulton County Acknowledges National Adoption Recognition & Recruitment Month

Wauseon, OH – The Fulton County Board of Commissioners and the Fulton County Job and Family Services (FCJFS) are recognizing November as National Adoption Recognition and Recruitment Month. FCJFS is launching a “White Ribbon Campaign’ by asking families and business to display a white ribbon on their door the month of November to promote adoption.

This year, National Adoption Month focuses on the adoption of older youth currently in foster care—because “We Never Outgrow the Need for Family – Just Ask Us.” The average amount of time older children have spent in foster care is four years and six months. The State of Ohio currently has over 14,034 children in foster care or other placement. Of these, 2,445 of the children are waiting to be adopted. Of those 2,445, 1,169 of the children are over the age of 12 years, and more difficult to place into foster care.

Adoption offers a unique experience that positively impacts the adopted child and enriches the lives of the adoptive families who welcome them. It can also provide a child with lifelong positive connections while helping them to succeed and reach their full potential.

No child should be without a forever family. No door should be closed. FCJFS, along with other public and private child caring agencies throughout the state and local community, work diligently in search of safe, stable, supportive permanent homes for Ohio’s most vulnerable children. FCJFS is looking for families who want to open the door to their home and heart by adopting a child.

If you are interested in more information on adoption, call FCJFS at 419-337-0010 Option 3, then 3 or visit www.fultoncountyoh.com/index.aspx?nid=1234
