Edon Native Elected To District Attorney Post In Colorado

December 12, 2016Updated:December 12, 2016No Comments2 Mins Read

An Edon man is the new district attorney in a Colorado town.

Joshua Vogel, son of Gregory and Cheryl Vogel, won a contest race for the post Nov. 8.

Vogel was born and raised in Edon and graduated from high school there in 2002. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Notre Dame in 2006 and moved to Colorado in 2007.

He graduated from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in 2011.

Vogel worked as a law clerk to a District Court Judge in Denver for two years after law school before moving to Lamar, Colorado, in 2013 to work as a deputy district attorney under District Attorney Jennifer Swanson in the 15th Judicial District.

Swanson was term-limited and could not run for another term.

“I was nominated as the Republican candidate for District Attorney in April,” Vogel said. “I ran against competition and prevailed on Nov. 8, 2016.”

Vogel will take the oath of office in January and become the District Attorney for the 15th Judicial District.

“My job will be to oversee the prosecution of all misdemeanor and felony offenses in the 15th Judicial District, which is comprised of Baca, Cheyenne, Kiowa, and Prowers counties in southeast Colorado and manage an office with eight employees,” Vogel said.

This district borders Kansas on the east, the Oklahoma panhandle on the south, and other Colorado counties to the north and west. This is mostly a farming and ranching community on the Colorado plains and includes the Arkansas River and the historic Santa Fe Trail.

“I would like to thank my parents, my family (brothers Dave and Scott Vogel), the Edon community, and all of my teachers and coaches throughout the years at Edon Northwest School District for giving me the tools to succeed in life,” Vogel said.
