Large Kindergarten Class Expected Next Fall At Edgerton

The Kindergarten class of 2017-18 at Edgerton Elementary is expected to be around 40, according to a report from Principal Kermit Riehle.

The numbers are based on anticipated registrations at the kindergarten assessment April 12-13. The Educational Service Center from Archbold will be on hand to enroll any student into preschool who does not show readiness for kindergarten, he said.

Anticipated enrollment for 2017-18, with current enrollment is as follows:
Primary kindergarten – 15, 11
Kindergarten – 40, 38
First grade – 35, 39
Second grade – 40, 36
Third grade – 35, 52
Fourth grade -52, 32
Fifth grade – 31, 39
Sixth grade – 38, 41

Eight of the 13 students who did not pass the fall state ELA test, earned promotion to fourth grade through Terra Nova and STAR Assessment. The remaining five will retake Terra Nova again in April, followed the ELA in the Spring/Summer as needed.

The elementary school hosted the William County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 unit for a demonstration of what the dogs can do for the community in combatting drugs. The third-grade class presented a donation for $611. The students baked and sold Christmas treats to raise the money.


The Edgerton Board of Education approved
An agreement with NWOESC for the 2017-18 school year.

The board also accepted the following donations:
$620 for the Athletic Department from the Memorial for Joe Meyer;
$999 for a Hudl video system for football from the Edgerton Athletic Boosters.

Approved the creation of an assistant technology coordinator and testing coordinator position for the district. Hired John VanAusdale for 2017-18, pending a background check.


Approved a supplemental contract for Jim Saul as assistant football coach for 2017-18.

Accepted the resignations of Joshua Keppeler as a teacher, effective at the end of the 2016-17 contractual agreement and Kenneth Leppelmeier for retirement, effective June 30.

Approved a reduction in force for Denise Riehle (Title I aide) effective for the 2017-18 school year.


The high school report was presented by Principal Roger Cade.

The school finished fourth at the GMC Quiz Bowl at NwOESC, Feb. 24 and third at the Junior High Quiz Bowl Tournament, Feb. 27.

Mrs. Adams’ class won the traveling trophy for best attendance.

Upcoming events include:
Daddy daughter dance, April 30.
Teacher appreciation luncheon May 3.
BRAX Spring Fundraiser begins May 15.
