The Archbold School Board met in regular session on Monday, April 17th 2017 in the Media Center at Archbold High School. After roll call and the Pledge of Allegiance, Superintendent Aaron Rex provided this report:

“Mr. Short and I have been working with Mr. Link and Mr. Sell, along with some students to create a learning space in the courtyard. We heard about this during one of the government presentations and discussed how it could be used more effectively for things like classroom learning, or simply a place for kids and teachers to go. It appears that the Ohio Department of Education is seriously considering changing the graduation requirements after an advisory group met to discuss concerns. Our administrative team completed walkthroughs of every classroom at the elementary and the middle school last week. We were able to see our teachers engaging our students in worthwhile learning activities as we looked for the posting of objectives and formative assessments. I want to thank all of our staff members who prepared food or volunteered at the community at the end of March. This is a great outreach and our team was able to take part twice this school year. And finally, for the fifth year in a row Archbold has been recognized as one of the best communities for music education. Only 4% of school districts receive this award so we are proud of this recognition and obviously the people who continue to make it happen.”

The following building reports were presented as follows:

High School: Principal Royal Short stated that prom will be held Saturday, May 6th 2017 at Founder’s Hall. After Prom will take place this year at the recreation center on the campus of BGSU. Junior and Seniors will leave from the K of C Hall by bus and then return there following after prom activities for breakfast. Scholarship Night/Awards Night will be May 22nd at Founders Hall. On Tuesday, May 23rd grades 9-12 will be honored for class award and other achievements in the Auditorium at 7pm. On April 28th at 11:30am there will be a Senior Citizen Luncheon. The program will include a performance from the Jazz Band and the Company. Mr. Short also said that Archbold will be hosting the District Track meet on May 18th & 20th. The 8th graders, joined by 8th graders from Fairview, participated in ACT OUT. ACT OUT is an interactive theatre group addressing important social issues facing today’s youth, including bullying, substance abuse, and personal relationships. The event was sponsored by Four County Family Center.

Grades 3-4 will be completing computerized state tests during the weeks of April 24th– May 5th.
