Archbold Lady Blue Streaks Fall To Eastwood In District Finals

Archbold had a familiar opponent in this year’s Division III District Final at Rolf Park in Maumee. The Lady Blue Streaks faced Eastwood last year, defeating the Lady Eagles and moving on to Regionals by the score of 2-1. Archbold found themselves facing an early deficit in this matchup, one they couldn’t overcome.

Archbold’s offense was stymied early on by Eastwood pitcher Ashley Hitchcock, which included her striking out the side in the top of the 2nd inning. Eastwood would jump on Blue Streaks pitcher Alyssa Ziegler in the bottom of the 2nd. Macey Fix got the Eagles offense started with a two run homer and the Eagles had a 2-0 lead. Eastwood continued to have success at the plate, scoring three more runs to take a 5-0 lead after two innings of play. After a scoreless 3rd inning for Archbold, it was Fix again with a home run, this time a solo shot to make it 6-0 Eastwood after the 3rd.

With the score still 6-0 heading to the top of the 5th, Archbold finally broke the ice putting up one run to make it 6-1. That remained the score until the top of the 6th as the Blue Streaks continued to fight back. Archbold was able to score two more runs off of Hitchcock and now it was just a 6-3 going to the 7th. Archbold was unable to keep the momentum going in the 7th as Hitchcock regained control of the Archbold hitters and Eastwood walked away with a hard fought 6-3 win.

In the circle for Archbold (15-9), Alyssa Ziegler put forth a solid effort going six innings, giving up six runs, seven hits, three walks and two strikeouts. At the plate for the Streaks, Alexa Wilson and Faith Wyse were each 2-3 with an RBI while Kaitlyn Beck was 1-3 and a RBI. Macey Fix was the offensive star of the game for either team with her two home runs and three RBI’s for Eastwood. The final line for Hitchcock was seven innings, giving up three runs, six hits, with one walk and seven strikeouts.
