Albert “Bert” Bell, III (1946-2019)

Albert C. “Bert” Bell, III, 72, of Montpelier passed away on February 28, 2019, at his seasonal home in St. Petersburg, FL. He was born on June 27, 1946 in Columbus, IN to Albert C. Bell, II and Mildred (Montgomery) Bell.

Bert graduated from Columbus High School in 1965 and went on to obtain his Master’s Degree at Tri-State University. On June 4, 1977 he married Jacqueline K. Steele of West Unity, and she survives.

Bert taught for 37 years in the Montpelier Exempted School District, teaching 7th grade reading and 8th grade math. He was also a former junior high football coach. Bert was a car enthusiast and enjoyed playing guitar, photography, fishing, and woodworking. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Montpelier. 

In addition to his loving wife of 41 years, Jacqueline, Bert is survived by his children, Jeffrey Allen (Dawn) Bell of Phoenix, AZ, Scott Douglas Bell of Largo, FL, Sarah Elizabeth Bell of Toledo and Nicole Ellen (Todd) Dean of Toledo; five grandchildren, Lexie Bell,  Rylee Bell, Trysten Dilworth, Avery Dean and Aiden Dean; two great-grandchildren Liam Dilworth and Keelee Bell; two sisters, Nancy Van Wye of Columbus, IN and Lynda Renick of Midland, TX; one brother, Robert (Linda) Dilworth of Bryan; brother-in-law, Paul Douglas Steele of Swanton; and nieces and nephews, Evan Dilworth, Seth Dilworth, Nancy Renick, Laura Butera and Matthew Renick. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for Bert will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 from 2-8 pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 10:30 am at the funeral home with Pastor Justin McCall to officiate. Bert will be laid to rest at Floral Grove Cemetery in West Unity.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Williams County Humane Society.
