BOYS SOCCER UPDATE … Archbold boys soccer coach Stewart Rodger (left) presented the program at the September 8 Rotary meeting. The program was arranged by Mark Hagans.
The success of this year’s boys soccer team at Archbold began two years ago with a team that worked hard, but only managed three wins to show for it, Coach Stewart Rodger told Archbold Rotarians.
He explained that the team had a number of juniors who returned the next year determined to go out as winners their senior year.
And they did – winning 14 games and the league championship.
That winning experience and understanding what it takes has set the stage for this year’s squad that is primarily comprised of last year’s junior varsity.
The team has gotten off to a good start winning four of their first five games. The only loss was to league rival Wauseon, which means Archbold will have to win all of their remaining league games to repeat as league champions.
However, Rodger said that he doesn’t measure a team’s success simply by their record. Rather, he looks at their effort to do their best….to compete to a higher standard and work together as a team.
And, as the coach he explained that he most enjoys the role that he serves in helping the boys grow into responsible young men.
