Alex Baker, of the Edon FFA Chapter, will receive his American FFA Degree this October during the 88th National FFA Convention and Expo in Louisville, Kentucky. The American FFA Degree is the highest honor the National FFA Organization can bestow upon its members. Defiance – Teen drivers continue to cause a disproportionate number of traffic crashes each year. As National Teen Driving Safety Week is October 18-24, it’s the perfect time for teens and their parents to discuss the dangers new drivers face so they can make safe and responsible decisions. Young drivers who are 15 to 19 years old were involved in about 15 percent (128,349) of all traffic crashes from 2012-2014. Of those crashes, a teen driver was at-fault 73 percent of the time. The 29th Annual CPC Steps for Life Walkathon was held on Saturday, September 19 at MacDonald-Ruff Ice Rink/Moore Park in Bryan. We are thankful for over $35,000 that was raised (so far) to help meet operational expenses of the CPC Women’s Health Resource. Intermittent rain on Saturday morning did not dampen the spirits of participants in the Color Run, Walkathon, and Diaper Dash (a mini-race for toddlers and crawlers). Graduated From North Central High School Samuel L. Sierra, 28 years, of West Unity, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015 as the result of an automobile accident near West Unity. Samuel was born September 21, 1987 in Harlingen, Texas. He was a 2006 graduate of North Central High School where he participated in Track, Cross Country, Baseball and Choir. OWL stands for Outstanding Women Leaders. This is a club for 7th & 8th grade girls that meets every other Wednesday and encourages them to use leadership skills in whatever career path they choose. RURAL WEST UNITY – 28 years old Samuel Sierra of West Unity died this morning in a two vehicle accident between West Unity and Montpelier at the intersection of US 20A and County Road 17 in Jefferson Township. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Sierra was heading east on 20A when he hit the rear axel of an International Harvester.
