INJURY ACCIDENT … Alvordton Fire and Rescue responded to an injury accident on Monday, October 01, 2012, in Alvordton, Ohio, at the corner of Main and Michigan Streets (State Route 20 and County Road 20). The accident occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m. Four individuals were involved. In this photo, rescue personnel work to extract victims from their vehicles. The Ohio State Highway Patrol were in charge at the scene of the accident with the assistance of Williams County Sheriffs deputies and Pioneer EMS . Further details were unavailable at press time.
It’s Homecoming Week at Montpelier High School. The Court is mostly set, but the drama of who will be named King and Queen is still unresolved. Merve E. Dick, 90, of Montpelier died Thursday at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier. He was born on May 19, 1922 in Madison Township, Williams County, Ohio to Mervin E. and Mattie J. (Keller) Dick. Merve graduated from Pioneer High School in 1940. Merve served his country in the Army during World War II. On June 24, 1948 Merve married Alice G. Barnhard at Clear Lake, Indiana. Merve retired in May of 1984 from Miller Brothers Paving of Archbold as a general laborer. Merve was a life member of the Pioneer American Legion Post #307 and VFW in Pioneer. …
Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Scott T. Stewart graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. This will be a 74 mile bicycle ride beginning at Bryan Library and traveling to every public library in Williams County. ROAD TO WELLNESS … Four County Career Center’s Automotive Technology students were part of the “Road to Wellness,” the fourth annual health care conference for mature adults and caregivers sponsored by the Fulton County Aging Consortium, by participating in the Car Fit Opportunity. Quietly teeing off with her brothers on the Locomotive links squad, Leslie has often been the overlooked one on the team. Not any more! When the seperation came down for the Sectional tournament, the boys went to Ironwood, and were eliminated. Leslie went by herself to White Pines, and she came home with a District qualification. The 2013, Old Farmers’ Almanac was an opening highlight by Larry Zuvers (Bryan), who was Toastmaster at the October 1st Northwest Ohio Toastmasters meeting. The first speech was by new member Jim Watkins (Bryan). Jim did an ice breaker speech which reviewed his early years. He related that he learned to appreciate what he has by doing mission trips and working on the farm. Also he learned to deal with various types of people because he had seven varied siblings. WAUSEON – For what is believed to be the first time in school history, the North Central Eagles claimed the 2012 Sectional Golf Championship on September 27th at Ironwood Golf Course. The Eagles battled the other 12 teams and windy playing conditions to finish with a team score of 335 to claim the title. The Buckeye Border Conference was well represented once again as the Stryker Panthers finished second with a 344. STRYKER – In a September 20th Williams County showdown, the host Stryker Panthers romped past the Montpelier Locomotives by a final total of 155-171. The Brothers Clingaman led the way for Stryker as Tanner blistered the Riverside Greens course for a 33, and Hunter a 38. OTTAWA HILLS – The first quarter was a stalemate. The second was manageable. The third period was when the wings fell off the fuselage for the Edon Bombers, as the Ottawa Hills Green Bears completed a run of 34 unanswered points in a 34-8 thumping of the visiting Bombers on September 28. ARCHBOLD – Although they controlled the battle of time of possession by a sizeable margin and collected more first downs, the Montpelier Locomotives hopes of spoiling Homecoming for the Archbold Bluestreaks was short lived. The hosts were able take advantage of big plays and capitalize on four Montpelier turnovers to down the Locos by a final of 76-13. Mayor Peg Bernath announced at the Thursday, September 27, meeting of West Unity Village Council that Daryl “Ric” Beals was being recommended as the new village administrator to replace Randy Mahlman who resigned earlier in the year. Beals’ starting date will be Monday October 8 when he will begin his 6 month probationary period with the village. Starting probationary wage will be $37,000 and he will not be eligible for paid vacation days during the probationary period. Upon the recommendation of Village Administrator Steve Blue, Mr. Matt Moats was promoted to the position of Fayette Maintenance Coordinator at the September 26 regular session meeting of the Fayette Village Council. Mr. Moats will receive a pay raise commensurate with the position, bringing him from $13.45 per hour, to $14.45 per hour. Prior to hearing the report of Mr. Blue, Council agreed to the payment of bills totaling $72,750.49, the bulk of which was a payment of approximately $49,000 to Arcadis.
