The Stryker Rotary Club invited Craig Koeppe and his wife Deb to present Craig with an award for his dedicated service to the Stryker Fire Department and community. A cooperative effort involving Williams County Commissioners, Sheriff Steve Towns and The OPBA deputies union resulted in the return of concessions given by the deputies last year including the return of duty vehicles. There has also been an agreement reached with the OPBA and Sheriff Towns which resulted in a revised work schedule which has better shift coverage and also allows deputies more time with their families. Paulette F. Potts, 65, of West Unity, OH, died early Wednesday morning, October 24, 2012, at her home, following a battle with cancer. She was born on October 4, 1947, in Wauseon, OH, to the late Paul and Frances (Carpenter) Zuver. Paulette married Terry Potts on December 31, 1975, in Pioneer, OH, and he survives. The children of Montpelier will soon be playing on playground equipment approved by council members at a park where many of their parents once played as children. Sandy Gordon, recreation director for the Montpelier Park Department, presented the plans for a two phase play area for the southeast corner of Robert Storrer Memorial Park. Ms. Gordon recently became aware of a grant to offset the cost of the equipment by $8,645.82, but would require the purchase of the equipment by November 16, 2012. Millcreek-West Unity’s Board of Education voted unanimously to accept a donation from the Hilltop Athletic Boosters of the funding to repair the school’s all-weather track. The Boosters did their homework, coming to the board with three different options for maintenance to be done to the track. The Boosters had approved at their September meeting proceeding with the option of repairing/filling in the spots on the track that needed it, applying a binder coat and restriping the lanes. To Whom It May Concern, The Village of Fayette has placed two property tax replacement levies on the upcoming general election. A replacement tax does not increase the tax rate, but it generally has the effect of increased taxes since assessed values increase. The first is to replace the 2.9 mills for General Operating expenses and is projected to generate an additional $21,300 of income to the Village. STRYKER – Members of the Corrections Commission of Northwest Ohio took care of a lengthy agenda during Wednesday’s meeting to include adopting a 2013 budget – a slight decrease from this year’s budget – as well as adopting bed allocations, finalizing three union agreements and lifting a hiring freeze. Board members adopted the 2013 budget totaling $14.8 million — almost $4,800 less than the 2012 budget — amounting to a .03 percent savings.  The per diem rate for 2013 stands at $63.70, down two cents from 2012.  Budget savings include employees paying more for their health insurance coverage although they…

Unemployment rates statewide have once again shown a slight drop from 7.2% in August to 7.0% in September. Fulton and Williams Counties both contributed to the statewide figure, showing drops of .2% and .6%, respectively. Fulton County went from 6.7% in August to 6.5% in September while Williams County broke the 7% barrier, dropping from 7.5% in August to 6.9% in September. Fulton County held steady at 50th place in the statewide rankings while Williams County dropped two spots from 35th place to 37th.
