One of the topics discussed at a brief meeting of the Blakeslee Village Council on March 21 was the upcoming annual large trash pickup event in the village.
Saturday, April 24 has been set as the date for the annual large trash pickup in Blakeslee. The village will arrange for curbside pickup of all large trash items that fall within the parameters of what will be accepted at the landfill. Amongst those items that will not be accepted are…
•Residential bagged trash
•Yard waste (branches, leaves, grass, etc.)
•Hazardous waste (batteries, pesticides, liquid paint, etc.)
•Tires
•Liquids, semi-liquids or semi-solids of any type
•Concrete, concrete blocks, drywall, dirt, stones or ashes
Accepted items or conditionally accepted items include…
•Empty barrels will be accepted – barrels full of ashes or bags of ashes will not
•Dried paint is acceptable as long as lid is off paint can

•Other construction material not listed above, 5 foot in length or less, will be accepted provided it will fit into the back of the truck or provided container. Employees will not break off material to make it fit.
•Household items like furniture, TVs, mattresses, box springs, etc. are acceptable. All appliances must be certified “Freon free”
•Push mowers, rototillers, swing sets, etc. are acceptable, provided liquids are totally drained
A complete listing of items that can and cannot be picked up is posted on the board in the Blakeslee Post Office.
In other actions, Council suspended the rules to adopt Resolution 3-2021-1, approving the Solid Waste Management Plan Update for the Joint Solid Waste Management District of Defiance, Fulton, Paulding and Williams Counties.

Village Fiscal Officer Beth Rediger reported that she will be in contact with the office of Williams County Engineer Todd Roth to ask about the possibility of the county applying a chip and seal surface to the village streets. Rediger later said that the call to the county would inquire, “…if they do it, or if we have to look for someone, what they would suggest.”
