Bruce Holifield, Sr. (1953 – 2018)

Bruce E. Holifield, Sr., 64 years, of Sherwood, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice, Defiance, with his family at his side.  Bruce was born on June 19, 1953 in Norton, Virginia, the son of Charles E. and Mary L. (Brummitt) Holifield.  He married Korene K. Raker on July 14, 2000 in Defiance, and she survives.  Bruce was a line worker at General Motors in Fort Wayne for 30 years, retiring in 2008.  Bruce had a variety of interest, including fishing, which he would do when the opportunity arose, following the Detroit tigers, growing his vegetable garden, his Ford Mustang and any other Ford vehicle.  His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife Korene of Sherwood; his mother, Mary Holifield of Defiance; six children, Ministy Holifield of Marion, Indiana, Bruce (Alicia) Holifield, Jr. of Warren, Indiana, Amber (Adam) Boxell of Warren, Indiana, Stephanie Contreras of Sherwood, Danielle (Nicholas) Renollet of Sherwood, Ohio and Emily (Nick) Richardson of Fort Wayne, Indiana; six grandchildren; one sister, Violet Fleming of Defiance, Ohio; four brothers, Claude (Denise) Holifield of Stryker, Ohio, Ray Holifield of Defiance, Ohio, Jack (Laura) Holifield of Hicksville, Ohio and Mike (April) Holifield of Defiance, Ohio.  He was preceded in death by his father, Charles; one son, Shayne Holifield; one infant brother, Nathan Holifield.

Memorial services for Bruce E. Holifield, Sr. will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2018 in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood with Pastor Max Begley officiating.  Interment will be private.  The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. Sunday and continue until the time of his service.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice 6825 State Route 66 North, Defiance, Ohio 43512 or to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center – Home away from Home, 2213 Cherry Street, Toledo, Ohio 43608.
