The Bryan City Schools Board of Education held its regular meeting Monday, March 9, 2026, at 6 p.m. in the Mose Isaac Field House Conference Room. Board President Dustin Schlachter began the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and then a roll call.
Board members present included Ben Camarillo, Debra Opdycke, Dustin Schlachter, Caleb Turnbull, and Lynn Wieland. Administrators in attendance were Superintendent Mark Rairigh and Treasurer Kevin Schafer.
The board approved the minutes from the February 9, 2026 regular meeting and the February 20, 2026 special meeting. A motion to approve the minutes was made by Wieland and seconded by Opdycke.
During recognition, winter sport state qualifiers were acknowledged.
Administrative reports were also presented from Bryan Elementary Principal Thormeier, Bryan Middle/High School Principal Arnold, Teaching and Learning/Assistant Superintendent Bassett, and Athletic Director Keel. A Four County Career Center report was provided by Camarillo.
Under the treasurer’s report and financial recommendations, the board approved the monthly financial report and reviewed an update regarding property tax legislation and property tax distribution.
Additional items approved included the Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center agreement for fiscal year 2027, amended fiscal year 2026 appropriations, and two change orders for electrical changes, turf base work, and weight room paint and floor inlay.
The board also approved an HPC service agreement covering fiscal years 2027 through 2029.
Donations accepted included $450 from the Bryan Athletic Boosters for a softball bat and $2,278 from the Bryan Girls’ Softball Association to support a spring softball trip.
During ongoing business, Superintendent Rairigh provided an update on the Arts and Education demolition project, noting that the high school expansion project remains on schedule.
Under new business, the board conducted a first reading of the district calendar for the 2027-2028 school year. Rairigh also updated the board on the district’s remaining calamity day balance.
Additionally, he reported that the original center circle from the Arts and Education gym had been saved during demolition and will be restored for display.
Superintendent administrative recommendations included approval of 22+ graduate Sharon Petree and early graduates Allyson Grymonprez and Layla Elzey for 2026.
Personnel recommendations included the resignation of Ann Fitzenrider, elementary secretary, effective March 13, 2026. Lori Moore, who has nine years of experience, was approved for a voluntary transfer from educational aide to elementary secretary, effective March 13, 2026.
The board also accepted the resignation of Amy Chambers, sixth grade physical education and health teacher, effective May 26, 2026.
Additional personnel actions included the transfer of Lindsey Bever from fifth grade teacher to fourth grade general education teacher and Ben Osterland from first grade to elementary physical education teacher, both effective August 1, 2026.
The board also approved the retirement of Julie Taylor, a 6-12 administrator, effective July 31, 2026.
Athletic volunteer approvals included Allison Redhead, Brian Cummins, and Julie Cummins for high school track and field.
The board also conducted the first reading of several policy revisions, including policies addressing job-related expenses, entrance requirements, grading, class rank, purchasing and bidding procedures, procurement of federal grants and funds, district credit card use, vendor relations, and a replacement policy addressing artificial intelligence.
Board members entered executive session at 6:56 p.m. to discuss the compensation of an employee, investigation of a complaint against an employee, and negotiations with employees.

The next meeting of the board will be held Monday, April 13, 2026, at 6 p.m.
