The Bryan Middle School Quiz Bowl team swept through the Williams County Junior High Quiz Bowl competition for a championship.
The team, which consists of four eighth graders and three seventh graders, swept all four matches for the title. The win is the best finish for the school in several years.
The competition was hosted by Edgerton Feb. 27. All middle schools in Williams County, both public and private, were invited, coach Lisa Heslop said. The format was a buzzer round, double elimination.
Bryan defeated Hilltop 12-7; Montpelier 16-8 and St. Patrick 12-9. The team moved on to the finals and beat St. Patrick again 13-5.
“All of the students were able to get in and all gave an answer,” Heslop said. “Everybody participated; they did a really good job.”
The team practiced for only two weeks, Heslop said. She teaches Spanish at the high school and is the high school Quiz Bowl team coach as well. This is her first year as the middle school coach.
The team’s roster included eighth graders Holden Cobb, Ra’el Coward, Elijah McCarty and Lucas Will and seventh graders Jay Fortner, Michael Ledyard and Ethan Psurny.
