MONTPELIER (May 12, 2026) — Montpelier never got anything going offensively and Fairview blew open a tight game with a five-run seventh inning to beat the Locos 7-1 in a Division VI sectional final at Montpelier.

The Apaches got a run in the top of the first against the Locos’ Cianna Shoup to go up in the game.

With one out, Rashele Hoffman laced a single to left and Sammy Mavis followed with a double to right-center to put runners on second and third before a ground out brought the run home.

The Locos tied it in the bottom of the third against Lilly Warner. Rowan Brown drew a walk and Maggie Jacob followed with a sharp single to put Locos at first and second with no outs.

A sacrifice moved the runners and a bounce out plated Brown to tie the game. After that point, Warner was razor sharp, giving up just one hit and walking one batter the rest of the way.

Fairview took the lead back in the fourth. Grace Poper lined a one-out single, then with two down, Warner lined a sinking drive to right on which Neriah Thorp’s diving attempt came up empty and Warner raced to third with a run-scoring triple.

Shoup also was solid on the mound as Fairview could muster just four hits in the first six innings.

In the seventh, though, the roof caved in. Asia Brubaker’s easy grounder to start the inning was muffed for the first error of the game and Fairview took full advantage.

Warner singled, a ground ball plated one run, then Quinn McCann doubled home another to make it 4-1.

Chloe Northrup reached on an infield hit and when the throw to first was wild, another run scored and Northrup ended up at third.

Samantha Coolman doubled to deep right to bring in another Apache tally and scored herself when the throw to the infield eluded everyone for the third error of the inning.

Warner worked around a walk in the bottom of the seventh to gain the complete game win, holding the Locos to just three hits in the game.
