PETTISVILLE (May 11, 2026) — After falling behind early, Montpelier erupted offensively over the middle innings and rolled to a 17-5 victory over Pettisville nonconference action on Monday night.
The Locomotives totaled 14 hits and used several big innings to pull away, led by standout performances from Henna Beck, Neriah Thorp, and Alyvia Repp.
Beck finished with three hits and three RBIs, while Thorp and Repp each drove in multiple runs during Montpelier’s offensive surge.
Pettisville struck first in the bottom of the opening inning. With two outs, Macy Hoylman lined an RBI single that brought home Ali Genter and gave the Blackbirds an early 1-0 lead.
Montpelier answered in the second, taking advantage of a Pettisville error that allowed Beck to score and tie the game at 1-1.
The Blackbirds regained the lead moments later when Genter delivered a clutch two-out single to right field, scoring Alissa VanDenBerghe and putting Pettisville back in front 2-1 after two innings.
That lead quickly disappeared in the third. Montpelier’s bats came alive as the Locomotives strung together a series of timely hits to seize control. Thorp opened the rally with an RBI single before Repp and Beck followed with back-to-back run-scoring hits to make it 4-2.
Bella Ramos later added a sacrifice bunt RBI to cap a four-run inning and extend the lead to 5-2.
The offensive momentum continued in the fourth. Morgan Bechtol started another scoring push with an RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly from Thorp and another RBI knock from Zoe Uribes as Montpelier stretched its advantage to 8-2.
Pettisville attempted to answer in the bottom half, again relying on Genter, who recorded her second two-out RBI single of the game. However, the Blackbirds were unable to string together a larger rally, leaving the score at 8-3.
The fifth inning effectively put the game out of reach. Bechtol delivered another RBI single, and Rowan Brown later scored on a defensive miscue before Repp added a two-out RBI hit.
Beck followed with a two-run double to cap a five-run frame, giving the Locomotives a commanding 13-3 lead.
To Pettisville’s credit, the Blackbirds continued to compete offensively. Grace Hastings and Kendall Vickery each drove in runs in the bottom of the fifth, trimming the deficit to 13-5.
Montpelier added insurance in both the sixth and seventh innings. Bechtol collected yet another RBI single in the sixth, while Shelby Terry added a run-scoring hit in the seventh.
Additional Pettisville defensive miscues allowed two more runs to score as the Locomotives pushed the lead to 17-5.
Thorp closed the door in the final inning, retiring the side and securing the victory for Montpelier.
