Delta Vice-Mayor Ashley Todd, in the absence of Mayor Allen Naiber, ran what ended up being a very brief council meeting Monday evening.
While no new or old business was handled, the council approved minutes and invoices as usual and heard some updates from Village Administrator Andy Glenn, partially in response to a resident complaint regarding the increased water rates.
Appearing on behalf of his father, who does not speak English, the man shared their dismay at the higher bill. Glenn eventually offered to meet with him immediately after the meeting to explain the details of the recent rate increase.
Glenn also answered questions from council regarding a recent grant application for $5 million to cover upgrades to the water plant.
He said the grant would fund the installation of permanent pretreatment, expansion and updating of microfilters, and installation of secondary charcoal filtering at the village’s water plant.
“It would cost the village about a million-dollar match,” Glenn said. The village received a request for additional information in follow-up to the application, and that material has been submitted.
The council voted to go into executive session to “consider the purchase of property for public purposes,” “consider the investigation of charges or complaints against a public employee,” and employment of a public employee. No action was expected as a result of the session.
The next meeting of the Delta Village Council will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20.
