At approximately 6:41 p.m. residents began receiving a text message telling them to avoid 1000 block of Maplehurst in Montpelier and to stay indoors if they were in the area. This message was sent due to a police investigation.
Montpelier Police Chief Dan McGee explained to The Village Reporter that the incident prompting the text message was due to a domestic violence call. Officers were called to the residence located at 1012 Maplehurst Avenue for domestic violence.
While on the scene, a male subject presented to officers with an axe and began to barricade himself inside a shed. Multiple officers responded and after a moderate amount of time and negotiations the subject was arrested.
Chief McGee stated the subject did resist but that there were no injuries involved. The subject, Jason Johnson, was transported to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio on counts of Aggravated Menacing and Domestic Violence.
Chief McGee would like to thank the Williams County Sheriff’s Office and Williams County EMS for their assistance.
