(Enjoyed Watching Classic Movies & TV Sitcoms)

Donna Jean McCleary, age 69, of Swanton and formerly of Toledo, peacefully passed away early Sunday morning, Oct. 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving children at Embassy of Swanton.

She was born in Fremont, Ohio, on July 12, 1957, to the late John and Barbara (Shuman) McCleary. Donna attended Woodward High School and later married the late Duane M. Weltlin Sr. Together, they were blessed with four children: Valorie, Duane Jr., David and Jason.

Donna devoted much of her life to caring for her family and took great pride in the children and grandchildren who brought so much meaning and happiness to her life.

She was especially devoted to her grandson, Duane M. Weltlin III, whom she lovingly raised as her own son from an early age. For many years, Donna worked as a manager for McDonald’s in Oregon, Ohio, and later held several factory positions before retiring.

In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, reading and spending time watching classic movies and television sitcoms. One of her favorite novels and movies was “Gone With the Wind.”

Donna also enjoyed playing games on her cell phone and could often be found happily passing the time with a game in hand. She was proud of her Irish and Scottish heritage and enjoyed collecting four-leaf clovers.

A devoted Chicago Bears fan, Donna always had a special place in her heart for her favorite team. One of her fondest memories was traveling to England and enjoying all the sights and activities.

Above all, though, Donna cherished her family and the time she spent with those she loved. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a tremendous source of joy, and she will be remembered for the love she gave so freely to them.

She is survived by her daughter, Valorie (Randy) Hardesty of Delta; sons, David (Melissa) Weltlin of Norwalk, Ohio, and Jason A. Weltlin of Toledo; and Duane M. Weltlin III, whom she raised as a son. Also surviving are many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Metha (Bud) Brown and Tina Zahs; brothers, Rodney (Bobbie Jo) Zahs, John Heckler and Scott McCarty; along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her son, Duane M. Weltlin Jr., on April 25, 2023; and her brother, Dan McCarty.

Friends and family will be received to celebrate Donna’s life from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, at Barnes Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 5825 State Highway 109, Delta. Interment will be private for the family.

Those wishing a show of sympathy are asked to consider contributions to the Deaf Services Center of Northwest Ohio, 1002 Garden Lake Pkwy., Toledo, Ohio 43614, in Donna’s memory.

Online condolences may be sent to the family through www.barnesfuneralchapel.com.
