Doris Waidelich-Short (1930-2020)

Doris I. Waidelich-Short, age 89 years, of Archbold, passed away Monday afternoon, June 8, 2020, at Fulton Manor in Wauseon. She was born October 10, 1930, at Archbold, the daughter of Otis and Caroline (Roth) Waidelich.

She married Lawrence “Ted” Short in 1998 and he preceded her in death in 2010.  A resident of Toledo for many years, she was a registered nurse working at MCO for 27 years.

Before becoming a nurse she did voluntary service at a children’s home in Washington, D.C. She enjoyed traveling, tending to her roses and spending time with family.  She was a member of Central Mennonite Church near Archbold.

She is survived by 8 step-children, Kathleen, Ronald, Joanne, Lavonne, Denver, Janet, Leonard and Stanwyn; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Barbara) Waidelich of Syracuse, IN; a sister, Louella Kanagy of Chesterville, OH; a sister-in-law, Wynemia Waidelich of Archbold; a brother-in-law, Eldon Zehr of Anderson, SC; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Myrl, Dale and Leon Waidelich; and a sister, Rosa Zehr.


Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the visitation and services will be private with interment in the Pettisville Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to share a memory and condolences at ShortFuneralHome.com.

Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements.
