Douglas Joe Siegel, 63, of West Unity, Ohio passed away at his home on Friday, April 7, 2023. Doug was born June 23, 1959, in Bryan, Ohio, son of the late Harold W. and Margaret H. (Henderson) Siegel.
He was a 1978 graduate of Hilltop High School. Doug married Janice Leigh DeMeritt on February 16, 1996, in Las Vegas, Nevada and she survives.
Doug began working alongside his father, Harold, at Siegel Excavating in high school and later owned and operated the business.
Along with excavating, Doug was a lifelong farmer and was known for taking drives and checking on his crops.
He was a member of Montpelier Moose Lodge 312 and Sons of the Legion, West Unity American Legion Post 669. Doug was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa.
He cherished visiting with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife, Janice Siegel of West Unity, Ohio; five children, Stacie (Stan) Funkhouser of West Unity, Ohio, Jason (Brandie) Bailey of Pioneer, Ohio, Dustin (Kim) Bailey of West Unity, Ohio, Austin (Elishah) Siegel of West Unity, Ohio, and Abbie (Wm. Covin) Sanders of West Unity, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandson with one great-granddaughter on the way; sister, Tina (Kevin) Beatty of West Unity, Ohio; two brothers, David (Amy) Siegel of Sun Lakes, Arizona and Dennis (Cindi) Siegel of Alvordton, Ohio. Doug was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Doug will be held Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Solid Rock Community Church, 102 Egly Drive, West Unity, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 14, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Solid Rock Community Church with Pastor Dr. Dan VanArsdalen officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity.
