The Village of Edgerton Finance Committee met on Wednesday, November 6th at 6:15 pm. In attendance were Chair Jason Gruver, Chuck Wallace, and Lance Bowsher.
Also in attendance were Village Administrator Dawn Fitzcharles, Mayor Bob Day, Fiscal Officer Denise Knecht, Police Chief Ken Jacob, Fire Chief Scott Blue, Village Electric employee Troy Nihart, and Public Works Superintendent Kip Pahl.
On the agenda for the Finance Committee meeting was the 2024-2025 capital project status and plans.
Chief Blue explained what the fire department needed to replace with funds from their budget. He said that turnout gear has a lifespan of ten years and that replacing helmets will cost at least $12,000.
The department is good at applying for and receiving grants and there is a grant match for the fire hall with a grant from FEMA. The department has SCBA bottles and F500 concentrate which is foam for electrical fires.
Blue explained that if mutual aid uses any of the F500 the department will get reimbursed. Other items from the budget purchased were a skid unit for grass fires and radio and pager upgrades as well as a chief/dept pickup truck.
For the police department, Chief Jacob also applied for many grants to benefit the department and offset the cost of equipment and duty vests but upgrades to tasers and vehicles are necessary.
For the electrical department, they replaced and repaired a few transformers and purchased a Utility trailer. The street department replaced a truck that has a brine system.
The water, sewer, storm, parks, and administrative departments also have made some purchases from the budget. The parks department is replacing a lawn mower and then plans to continue a lease program for the equipment.
Exciting updates to Miller Park are the shelter building and the disc golf course. For the general fund, one potential project will be town hall parking and various sidewalk repairs.
Wallace suggested that the village consider hiring a village maintenance employee to help upkeep the town hall and help out other departments.
Village of Edgerton Finance Committee meeting adjourned at 7:25 pm.
