Bob Siebenaler was elected School Board President and Lyn Bowsher as Vice President at the 2021 Organizational meeting of the Edgerton School Board held at 6 pm on Monday, January 11, 2021.
The Board also approved the establishment of the meeting schedule for 2021 as the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Edgerton Elementary Library and the Bryan Times as the publication of posting regular and special board of ed meetings.
Bob Siebenaler was named delegate to attend the OSBA Capital Conference in Columbus, Ohio with Nick Hug as alternate. Members were appointed to committees for the year and the Board established a service fund of $5000 for 2021 to cover Board expenses.
Also approved were the standing yearly authorizations. The meeting adjourned at 6:08 and the Board went straight into the Regular monthly meeting at 6:08.
The agenda was accepted as were the regular December meeting minutes. In Communications, the Board received a report on the December meeting of the Four County Career Center Board of Education which was held on Thursday, December 17, 2020.
In the Treasurer’s agenda, there was discussion during the January 11, 2021 Regular meeting about the SM2 and 5 year forecast comparison, the Food Service analysis and the Audit Update.
Treasurer Bill Blakely recommended and received approval for Financial reports, bills for payment, appropriation and estimated resource modifications for the month of December and for investment as well as the Ohio State Board Association annual membership dues in the amount of $3417 with electronic issues only of OSBA Briefcase.
The board voted to a approve Superintendent Kermit Riehle’s report which included Recommendations:
•To approve the purchase of two flag poles from American FlagPole Company at the cost of $2960 with the school doing the installation
•To approve Annex Door Lock changes with Elite Door and Security of Bryan at the cost of $4294
•Approve First Reading NEOLA Edgar 2.0 Policy – Federal Procurement procedures
•Approve Graduation Seals as recommended by EHS School Counselor office as Community Service – 15 hours, One Fine Art Credit and One Extracurricular club
•Donation of 200 face masks from the EMA of the Edgerton Police Department
•Information on Enrollment, COVID-19 Vaccine update, Annex Renovation drawings, STEAM Lab to HS Library as a summer project, and LIM (Leader in Me) update Elementary Principal Brett Grieser reported on the fun the students had prior to Christmas.
Students are back to work in the classrooms, since break, and the Elementary office received a very generous donation of hats, scarves and gloves from The Henhouse out of West Unity. Officer Miller continues to impact the students during weekly DARE sessions.
LIM habit #3, which is centered around “Putting First Things First”, will be worked on throughout January with the Student Lighthouse TEAM continuing to lead the building. Several Paws-iTive Referrals have already been given as the students continue to work hard each day to make good choices.
Staff Shout-outs continue to be effectively utilized and Nurse Tracy was the recipient of one right before Christmas Break.
On Wednesday, January 6, Mrs. Kim Stark and Miss Dinah Rice led a Professional Development presentation on the importance of social emotional skills and taking care of ourselves. Important Dates coming up: January 11 and 25 – DARE; January 12 – PTO Meeting; January 13 – Science Club; January 25 – Building’s Best Habit #3; and February 5 – Perfect Attendance Award.
In the High School Principal’s report, Mr. Ben Wilhelm shared that there was some Christmas cheer spread in the highschool before Christmas break by Mr. Grieser, Mr. Davis and Mr. Richle.
On Saturday, January 2, 2021 three Seniors, Abbigail Herman, Rylei Moreno and Audrey Schroeder were recognized with their parents at the Girls Basketball game. On Tuesday, January 5, 2021, the Senior Wrestlers, Matthias Shepler and Jordan Warner, were honored with their parents before the match with Ayersville.
High School students will be “diving into Habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind with the 7-8 and 9-10 LIM groups.” 11-12 Lim Groups will be continuing their work with College, Career and Leadership Readiness Skills.
He also mentioned the January 6 presentation on Zones of Regulation and Coping Skills for students and gave the board some information on the SmartPass Digital hall pass system.
On January 11 Four County Center was holding a Virtual Open House from 5-7:30. Upcoming events: January 16 – BBK Senior Night (vs. Montpelier); January 26 College Credit Plus Informational meeting at 7 via Zoom; January 30 – Winter Homecoming (BBK vs. Hilltop)
The Board also hear a Technology report from Ms. Shari Saneda before the board went into Executive Session to discuss negotiations. With no action taken, the board adjourned at 7:40.
