Edgerton Village Council kicked off its Wednesday meeting with an apology from Mayor Bob Day. Before calling the meeting to order, Day explained the reason for a last-minute agenda revision, moving executive session up in the meeting when it is customarily at the end.

Day called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m., with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer.

Fiscal Officer Denise Knecht conducted a roll call, with members Sharon Blinzler, Brian Bowsher, Jason Gruver, Pam Wampler, and Leslie VanAusdale present. Chuck Wallace was absent.

Administrative Assistant Amanda Knecht attended in person, while Village Administrator Dawn Fitzcharles joined by phone. Police Chief Ken Jacob was also in attendance.

Before going into executive session, Day asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. Gruver moved to approve and Wampler seconded. All members approved. The meeting then moved into executive session at 5:32 p.m.

The meeting reconvened at 6:26 p.m. Both Day and Fitzcharles had no items to report. The Fiscal Officer report followed, presented by Denise Knecht. Starting with the credit card review, Knecht noted the increased spending due to purchases for the Lewis E. Brown Community Center and expected it to continue into next month as well.

Continuing, Knecht updated the board on the ongoing audit, which should conclude July 30. The report should be available approximately 30 days after that.

No major issues have been identified, and Knecht does not expect any. Knecht then asked for a motion to pay the bills, which Gruver made and Wampler seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

Knecht followed with a motion to approve and issue payment for an invoice to August Mack for the Edgerton Metals Brownfield Remediation project, invoice number 93140 at $8,240.42. Wampler moved to approve and Blinzler seconded. The motion carried.

Next was a motion to consider the Planned Service Agreement with Johnson Controls. D. Knecht explained this is for fire protection at the community center.

The local company will provide monitoring for the fire alarm system. If the motion passes, final inspections can be completed. Bowsher made the motion to approve. Wampler provided a second, and the motion was passed unopposed.

The council moved on to consider the hire of a summer intern for the street and park departments at $13 per hour for 20 hours a week. The motion to approve was made by VanAusdale and seconded by Wampler. The motion passed.

The next item was Resolution 2026-006. The resolution designates an acting village administrator during an approved leave of absence, delegating administrative authority.

Day thanked Doug Zimmerman for stepping out of retirement and assisting the village. VanAusdale moved to approve with Wampler seconding. The motion passed.

The last item was to extend temporary public works superintendent status to Bo Aldrich for an additional two weeks. The motion to approve was made by VanAusdale and seconded by Blinzler. All members approved.

Day invited Chief Jacob to speak where he informed the council of a potential officer candidate. The intended candidate graduated from the Vantage Career center and resides in Ney. The council should have the motion for approval at the June meeting.

Day opened the floor to council discussion. VanAusdale asked about the status of new computers, noting hers had died. Denise Knecht stated it had been pushed to the back burner, but they do have a quote.

Gruver asked about the pump situation at the lift station, which Fitzcharles was appreciative he brought up.

She informed the council that because of the recent power outage, three lift stations have been identified as damaged due to energy being backfed through the system. A cost proposal for a brand-new one is expected.

With no other discussion, VanAusdale moved to adjourn. Wampler was quick to second, and all members approved.

The meeting officially adjourned at 6:36 p.m. The next village council meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 3 at 5:30 p.m.
