Audiences at Edon High School were transported somewhere over the rainbow as students performed a production of The Wizard of Oz, with performances on Friday, March 27 at 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, March 28 at 2:00 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Based on L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the story was later brought to life through the classic 1939 film and subsequent stage adaptations.
The musical follows Dorothy, a young girl from Kansas who is swept away by a tornado into the magical Land of Oz.
Along her journey, Dorothy befriends a Scarecrow in search of a brain, a Tin Man longing for a heart, and a Cowardly Lion hoping to find some courage, all while trying to find her way back home.
Edon High School’s production embraced the magic of the beloved story, delivering a performance that felt both nostalgic and vibrant. From the opening scenes to the final curtain call, it was clear that significant time and dedication had been poured into every aspect of the show.
The cast shined throughout the performance, demonstrating strong chemistry and a clear sense of collaboration on stage.
Musical numbers such as “Over the Rainbow” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard” were delivered with confidence and beautifully executed, highlighting the vocal talents of the students while maintaining the emotional core of the story.
Mia Hawkins led the cast as Dorothy, bringing warmth and sincerity to the role. She was joined by Cayden Thiel as the Scarecrow, Briggs Gallehue as the Tin Man, Peyton Robinett as the Cowardly Lion, and Mully the pup as Toto.
Together, the group created a dynamic and engaging presence on stage, balancing humor and camaraderie as they journeyed through Oz.
Additional standout performances included Lexie Hay as Glinda and Riley Hay as the Wicked Witch, each bringing strong stage presence and memorable character portrayals that added depth and energy to the production.
One of the most charming elements of the show was the inclusion of younger performers, who took on roles such as Munchkins, snowmen, and jitterbugs.
Their involvement added an extra layer of authenticity, contributing to the overall sense of community and making the production feel especially inclusive.
The production itself was notably professional in its execution, with thoughtful staging, costuming, set design, and coordination that elevated the performance. Each scene flowed smoothly into the next, creating an immersive experience for the audience.
Edon High School’s performance of The Wizard of Oz proved to be a memorable showcase of student talent, dedication, and the enduring magic of live theater.
