
EDON BOE Members of the Edon Board Of Education meet for their February meeting

Northwest Local School District Board of Education met in regular session on February 12, 2024 with the following members present: Cody Best, Patty Eicher, Ashley Reed, Jamie Schaffter and Dave Wehrle
It was moved by Mrs. Schaffter and seconded by Mrs. Reed to approve the following consent agenda items: Minutes of the organizational meeting and of the regular meeting held on Monday, January 8, 2024; Approval of Financial Reports for January 2024; Approval of the Amended Certificate request.
Approval of the following donations: Bryan Eagles Post Prom- $700.00; Parent’s Club Grade 6 $133.73; FFA Alumni – $711.00.
Other items approved included: Then & Now Certificate for January 2024; NWOESC January 2024 Paraprofessional and Teacher Substitute lists as presented; Resolution Authorizing 2024-2025 Membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association; An overnight trip for Senior Retreat on April 6-7th, 2024.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Mrs. Nester presented the SM2 report comparing January 2024 figures to January 2023 which was included in the board reports. Revenues are up over last fiscal year by $351,423 and expenses are up for the fiscal year by $265,564. Fiscal year to date, revenue is over expenditures by $75,189.
HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Mrs. Lapham shared that on Feb 28th the juniors will take the ACT with accommodations at the Community Building. Mrs. Bloir has met with all Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors regarding next year’s schedules.
The 4E’s committee met on January 25th to discuss upcoming events; and on February 20th, the 8th grade students will visit the Four County Career Center. Upcoming dates: Feb. 17th – FFA Community Breakfast, Feb. 17-24th – FFA Week, Mar. 8-9th Musical and Mar. 15th – 3rd Qtr. ends.
ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Mrs. Ripke reported that at the end of January the elementary students celebrated the 100th day of school with classroom activities and an assembly. Mid-year benchmarking is complete for all grades and the data was reviewed.
A different method for disclosing class lists to parents/students in August is being looked at and Grades K-8 students have access to ZEARN, an online math resource that goes along with the Reveal math curriculum.
Kindergarten registration is posted on the district’s website and Paisley Herman and Lexie Hay represented the district in the Williams County Spelling Bee held the last week of January.
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
Mr. Stevens shared that they have received three new school buses with plans to sell two of the old buses and plans are being made for a building, grounds, transportation meeting to discuss the old bus barn.
Plans were discussed in regards to the April 8th eclipse and since they have missed seven days of school so far this year, the district will be in session on February 19th (Presidents Day).
An updated simulator membership document was presented for discussion and Habitec has been working in the district to install fobs on the simulator door and two others.
NEW BUSINESS

It was moved by Mrs. Schaffter and seconded by Ms. Eicher to approve and accept the amounts and rates as determined by the Budget Commission and authorizing the existing tax levies as well as certifying them to the county auditor as presented for the 2024-2025 school year.
It was moved by Mrs. Reed and seconded by Mr. Wehrle to rescind board approval of Action Item A (Motion #006-24) from the January 2024 board meeting which approved a resolution declaring it necessary to renew a school district income tax and requesting certification of alternative tax rates.

It was moved by Ms. Eicher and seconded by Mr. Wehrle to award a contract for entrance renovation/secure vestibule project to Siebenaler Construction Co.
It was moved by Mrs. Schaffter and seconded by Ms. Eicher to approve supplemental contracts for the 2023-2024 school year to the following individuals: Nate Garza-Volunteer Assistant Baseball; Chad Livensparger-Volunteer Assistant Baseball; Garrett Skiles-Volunteer Assistant Baseball; Jamison Wisel-Assistant Track; Scott Goodnight-Assistant Track; Tacia Livensparger-Assistant Track (50%); Jeremy Trent-Assistant Track (50%); Cameron Reed-Volunteer Assistant Track; Kenny Ordway-Volunteer Assistant Track; Steven Stamper-Junior High Track; Caela Walker-Assistant Softball (50%); Gary Hamrick-Assistant Softball (50%).
It was moved by Ms. Eicher and seconded by Mr. Wehrle to approve the first reading of the 2025-2026 school calendar. It was moved by Mrs. Schaffter and seconded by Mrs. Reed to approve Spring Intervention Teachers at the rate of $25.00 per hour.

It was moved by Mrs. Reed and seconded by Mrs. Schaffter to enter into Executive Session for the express purpose of discussing security. The Board, Mr. Stevens and Mrs. Nester entered into executive session at 6:07 p.m. and the same returned from executive session at 6:38 p.m. with no action. The next meeting is scheduled for March 11th, 2024.
