Edon Northwest School Board Receive Reports From Building Principals

The Edon Northwest School Board held their meeting on Monday, October 11th at 5:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, roll call and recognition of the visitors. Visitors were parents who were interested in seeing how a board meeting functioned.

With no other visitors present, the board moved to approve minutes from the September 21st meeting. The board also moved to approve the financial reports for September 2021 and approved a request for an amended certificate from the County Auditor.

Next, the board moved to approve the September substitute lists from the Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center as provided as well as all pending donations as presented.

The board then proceeded to hear a brief Treasurers report before moving on to the principal’s reports. During the High School principal’s report, several shoutouts were given to staff including Katie Rummel, Becky Ater, and Danielle Wolfe.


The Junior Highs 4E update was then given as well as an update on its future. In the High School, preparation for the ACT test has started with 29 students scheduled to take the practice test. Students were also able to tour the Defiance College Campus. Work Based Learning also has one new additional student bringing the total to four.

An update was then given from the principal of the elementary school. Study skills have been a priority for fourth graders with the first study skills session being done with both fourth grade classrooms at the beginning of the month.

The first session was also held for the girls in the sixth grade with a plan to hold sessions every month during academic assist. The elementary school is offering either in person or virtual parent teacher conferences this year.


Third graders will take the Fall Language Arts test on Tuesday, October 19th and Wednesday, October 20th. The second graders will have tests screening for gifted at the beginning of November.

In the Superintendents report, an enrollment report for the end of September was given to each member. It showed that enrollment has continued to change and is down a few students when compared to last month.

A quote for teacher laptop purchases was given out as well. An agreement for policy drafting services with NEOLA was also provided.

A new outdoor camera has arrived and will be installed in time for the football game vs Ottawa Hills. A Building/Grounds and Transportation meeting was then asked for to discuss the Bleacher/Press Box and parking lot sealing.


The following action items were then approved. A recommendation to approve the first reading of board policy updates from volume 40 No.1 – August 2021 as drafted.

A recommendation to approve a first reading of the 2022-2023 district calendar revisions. A recommendation to approve a memorandum of understanding with mentors for Williams County.

A recommendation to approve the A La Cart lunch item price increase as presented. A recommendation to accept the resignation of Austin Thiel, custodian, effective October 22nd, 2021. With no executive session being needed, the board moved to adjourn for the evening.
