The Edon Northwest Board of Education met in regular session on December 14th. All members were in attendance. Speaking during the meeting, Superintendent Anthony Stevens reported to the Board that even though hundreds of students have been quarantined due to being considered close contact, no students have contracted COVID from other students in the District.
Protocols set forth at the beginning of the year seem to be working in helping to control the spread of the disease. Due to these positive safety measures, the administration will begin scaling back their quarantine procedures after school resumes at the first of the year.
Also reported during the meeting was that Florence and Northwest Townships will be donating additional funds to the school district from COVID Relief monies given to the townships. Some of the money, as well as additional school funds are being used to purchase Chromebook for the Kindergarten.
The Winter Sports Plan was approved by the Williams County Health Department. For indoor sports, home team fans will come in from the back entrance and visiting fans will come in the front of the building.
In other news the Board approved an ACH Origination Agreement and Basic Internet Cash Management Service Agreement with State Bank. This was necessary due to the fact of Edon State Bank being bought out by State Bank. The Board also approved a Positive Pay Service with the State Bank.
The Board approved the purchase of an 84 passenger School Bus from Cardinal Bus Sales & Service. The administration is looking at ways to sell one of the busses that is to be retired by the District.
The Board also approved a resolution supporting the Fair School Funding Plan, which is a way to fund public schools from the State instead of the increasing use of additional School Taxes which put more of a burden on taxpayer’s property tax.
Also approved was the approval of the Brand Guide designed by VIP Branding for the school’s new logo. This has been a source of much discussion since the District was using both a Bomber Design and EB Star Logo.
A Student Laptop Agreement was passed that sets guidelines for whether the school or student will be responsible for any repairs that needs made to school issued Chromebooks.
Finally, the Board approved Cody Best as President Pro-Tem during the Board’s January organizational meeting on January 11th.
