(March 30th, 2015) – EDON: Hosting Green Meadows Conference opponent Antwerp to start their season early last week, the Bombers made it very clear that they will be a force with which to be reckoned this year. The Archers stepped onto the Edon field intent to test the Buckeye Border Conference squad.
Edon responded by routing the Archers 16-6 in the contest.
Antwerp got off to an excellent start offensively, scoring 4 runs in the top of the opening inning. Edon wasted little time with their rebuttal, driving in 8 runs before moving on to the second inning. The Archers added two more runs in the second, cutting their deficit down to just a pair of runs. That would be the last the Bomber boys would hear of a comeback, however, as their defense shut down any further scoring attempts from Antwerp.
In the bottom of the third, the boys of Edon racked up an additional 2 runs, followed by 4 more runs in the fourth. The fifth inning saw the Bombers gain yet another run. Though only 1 run, that last runner to step on home plate was the most significant of all. It put Edon ahead by 10 runs, allowing the mercy rule to put an early end to the game after just five innings.
Hayden Runyan earned the victory for the Bombers, pitching for the first 3.1 innings of the game. In that span, he struck out 7 batters faced. Levi Brandt provided relief pitching for Edon.
A few Edon hitters gave the Bomber boys the boost they needed to earn such a decisive victory. Landon Bloir, a junior, hit for a double. Jordan Stuart and Brayden Miller, a senior and sophomore respectively, each earned doubles as well. Colten Lyman, another junior for Edon, connected with the ball on his way to a single.
The win gives Edon and early 1-0 record for the season.
