On Monday, January 13th the Edon Board of Education meeting hired veteran coach Bob Olwin as the next football coach for the Edon Bombers. Olwin spent the last two seasons serving as an offensive assistant coach at Fairview, helping the Apaches to an appearance in the regional finals in 2018 and the regional semifinals in 2019.
Olwin takes over for Scott Staten who resigned in early December after ten years guiding the Bomber program. In his time, Staten compiled a record of 54-49 including going 7-4 this past season and making the playoffs for the third time during his tenure. His 54 wins are a school record.
The 34-year head coach, who has accumulated a record of 212-62, is a graduate of Springfield Northeastern High School and played fullback at Bluffton College.
Olwin’s career began at Antwerp in 1979 where he left after the 1982 season to become the head coach at Mechanicsburg. In 1985 Olwin left there to become the head man for the Tiffin Calvert Senecas.
Olwin, who currently resides in Bryan, then joined the college ranks in 1989 when he became the offensive coordinator at Tiffin University from 1989-91 before returning to the high school ranks at Ridgedale and then Arlington High School.
In 1995, Olwin found his way back to the Green Meadows Conference when he was hired to become the head coach at Fairview. After a successful run in Sherwood, Olwin resigned in 2008 to take over at Versailles (2008-12) which was followed by one season as the head coach at Lake in 2012.
After his time at Lake, Olwin became the head man at Ada High School where he resigned in March of 2018 after a five-year stint.
