Elvan E. “Sonny” Miller Jr., age 76 years, of Defiance, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 4, 2025 in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born December 31, 1948, in Wauseon, the son of Elvan and Ellen (Barrett) Miller Sr.
A 1967 graduate of Napoleon High School, he then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force in the 410 Supply Squadron during the Vietnam War. He married Susan Fry in 1995 and she survives.
He worked 30 years at General Motors in Defiance, retiring in 1999. He was known for his witty sense of humor and orneriness, which he showed clear up to his final moments.
He was a member of Ayersville Community Church, where he worshipped his Lord and Savior. He enjoyed wrenching on cars, camping, going to auctions, and stopping at every garage sale along his route. He was a member of the Defiance Amvets Post 1991, VFW Post 3360, and also Moose Lodge 2094.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Susan; 9 children, Scott (Marie) Double of Defiance, Meredith (Jeff) Seibert of Wauseon, Amber (Jason Baker) Beyer of Defiance, Isaac (Holly) Miller of Findlay, Kati (Thomas Drake) Miller of Goshen, IN, Hope Herwarth of Coldwater, MI, Steven Patrick of Waldron, MI, Christina (Kevin) Johnson of Stryker, Shane (Annie) Soules of West Bloomfield, MI; 39 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; his brother, Larry Miller of Fayette, dog Penny, and cats Gus and Mewmew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Cheryl Miller.
Services will be held on Thursday, January 9, at 6 PM at Short Funeral Home in Archbold. Friends may call from 3-6 PM before the service. The family suggests that memorials be made to The Disabled American Veterans.
