Esther Beck (1929-2018)

Esther F. (Liechty) Beck, age 88, passed away at Genesis Health Care in Bryan, Ohio. She had been a resident for 2 ½ years.

She was born in Cedar Creek, Allen County, Indiana, on October 26, 1929, the daughter of Jonas and Addie (Nichols) Liechty. She married Gaylord J. Beck and he preceded her in death in March of 1993. She lived in West Unity and Archbold areas.

Esther’s first job was working at the Wayne Knitting Mill in Ft. Wayne, Indian. She was co-owner of Unity Greenhouse in West Unity and co-owner of Beck’s Flowers in Archbold. She retired from Beck’s Flowers and Hardee’s on the Ohio Turnpike.

Survivors include her children; Anna, Paul (Vicky), Dawn (Denny); four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother, Gordon (La Ruth) Liechty; sisters-in-law, Ruth Liechty and Joanne Miller; brothers-in-law, David (Iva) Klopfenstein and Carl Mowan, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Andrew Miller; her parents; brothers, Robert and Morris Liechty; sisters, Edith Welty, Ruth King, Florence Klopfenstein, and Anna Grace Mowan.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at Lockport Mennonite Church, with Pastor Steve Heatwole and Pastor Matt Weaver, officiating. Friends may call at the church from 1:00 P.M. until service time. Interment will be in the Lockport Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Great Lakes Hospice.
