At the June 23rd regular meeting of the Evergreen Local Schools Board of Education, several key items were addressed, including leadership resignations, new hires, budget updates, and adjustments for the upcoming school year.
Sherrie Brown, the longtime principal at Evergreen Elementary, has formally submitted her resignation, effective July 1st, marking her retirement.
Also resigning was Andrew Haughawout, an elementary teacher whose departure is scheduled for August 15th.
The board approved the hiring of Riley Lumbrezer as a new preschool teacher for the 2025–2026 school year, as well as the employment of Elani Guyton as a summer custodian and substitute.
A large portion of the meeting was devoted to financial business. Treasurer Brian Carroll reported on end-of-year amendments to fiscal year 2025 and presented temporary appropriations for fiscal year 2026.
The board approved modifications totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars, including an increase of $900,000 to the general fund and several decreases across bond and grant categories.
Notable donations included $500 contributions from both Anderzack Pitzen Construction and Pro Ag Applications to the FFA fund.
New lunch and breakfast prices were adopted, with a $0.10 increase across student meals. Chromebook protection plans also saw a jump, now set at $30 per student.
Athletic ticket pricing for 2025–2026 was confirmed, including $8 for high school adults and $2 for junior high students. Additionally, the board approved a new food service management contract with The Nutrition Group.
Supplemental contracts and staff assignments were reorganized across sports and extracurriculars. Noteworthy was the rescinding and reassignment of cross country and golf coaching roles, along with the approval of numerous event staff and volunteer workers for middle and high school athletics.
Two agreements were also renewed for educational services with juvenile detention centers in Northwest Ohio, with updated daily rates. The board entered into an executive session at 6:34 p.m. with no action being taken.
The board will reconvene for its next regular meeting on July 21 at 6 p.m. in the Loren Pennington Learning Center.
