EVERGREEN BOARD OF EDUCATION: Board Moves To Place Renewal Levy On May 3rd Ballot

The Evergreen Schools Board of Education held their meetings on Tuesday, January 11th. The first meeting that took place was the districts Organizational meeting. The meeting took place at 5:45 p.m. with the meeting being called to order followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

The board first moved to elect Nora Kiefer as the Board President and Jason Miller as the Board’s Vice President for 2022.

The third Monday of each month was then set as the boards regular meeting date, with February being an exception with the date being set for the 22nd. The time for upcoming meetings will remain at 6:00 p.m.

The following agenda items were then adopted by the board. A resolution to dispense with the reading of minutes for the previous meeting.

Voted to limit the pay for board members to a maximum of 13 meetings for 2022. Appointed Nora Kiefer as the 2022 Legislative Liaison. Appointed Zach Murray and Don Smith to the 2022 Audit Committee.

Established a 2022 Public Record Commission for the Evergreen Local Board of Education that includes the Board President, Superintendent and the Treasurer.

Established a 2022 Board Service Fund at $5,000 to cover expenses of Board Members related to attending meetings or other board business as allowed by the law.

Authorized the Treasurer to invest funds, pay bills within appropriations, and seek advance draws of taxes from Fulton and Lucas Counties for 2022.

Authorized the Superintendent to be the purchasing agent for all purchases up to $35,000 and approved expenditures for student activity accounts, staff leaves, and professional meetings for 2022. The Organizational meeting was then adjourned.

The Board then called the regular meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. With 12 visitors present the meeting was called to order followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The board first moved to approve the minutes from the regular meeting that took place on December 20th, 2021.

Approval was then also given for the December 2021 financial reports which included the cash reconciliation, financial summary, cash summary, and distribution summary.

The five-year forecast and debt schedule for the fiscal year beginning July 1st, 2022, was then approved. A discussion was then held regarding a Resolution for the renewal of an annual tax levy.

If approved, the 0.25% school district income tax would take effect on January 1st, 2023, and would run for 5 years. The levy will be added to the ballot for the May 3rd, 2022, election.

An overnight trip for both the Evergreen wrestling team and the high school music students and advisors were then approved.

The wrestling team will be participating in the Division III State Dual at Sandusky’s St. Mary High School. The trip will take place from January 28th to the 29th.

The music students and advisors will be heading down to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The trip is planned for March 12th through the 16th.

The board then heard reports from members of the administration that included a first semester bullying report and an update on the renovation and expansion project.

Executive session was then entered into by the board. Upon returning from executive session, the board moved to offer the supplemental contract of Head Football Coach to Evan Karchner.

The board then moved to adjourn for the evening. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 22nd at 6:00 p.m.
