PRESS RELEASE – On November 9, 2024, at approximately 6:21 p.m., the Defiance County 911 Center received a call reporting a structure fire in the apartments above the Subway Restaurant located at 103 W High St, in the Village of Hicksville.
Upon arrival, the Hicksville Fire Department observed heavy smoke and flames. Fire crews entered the apartments and located a male inside. He was brought outside, but despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sherwood Fire Department, Farmer Fire Department, and LifeFlight assisted the Hicksville Fire Department and Hicksville EMS. The Defiance County Coroner’s Office responded, along with members of the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The fire remains under investigation by the Hicksville Fire Department, Hicksville Police Department, and Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office.
