FAYETTE – In case you haven’t noticed, there’s a couple of new sheriffs in BBC-town this season, and they might not be who you expected. The new power in the smallest conference in Ohio is seated in Fayette and West Unity in the teams of the Fayette Lady Eagles and the Hilltop Lady Cadets. The road to the conference title will travel through both villages, and that road will be, at best…very bumpy.
The Lady Cadets and the Lady Eagles squared off against each other on January 11, and it was an impressive showing. Hilltop jumped out to an early 14-5 lead, but Tim Nicely’s Lady Eagles replied with a 21-10 second period and a 13-8 third to cool the Cadets’ jets and take a 54-46 win.
Mikayla Smith led the Lady Eagles with 19 points, and Kaela Seiler finished with a dozen. Taylor Griffiths canned 5 points, Paige Keefer, Allison Cuff, Alexis Fruchey and Ashtyn Baker each had 4 points, and Melani Seiler added 2 points.
Athlete of the Week alumnus Hannah Bleikamp again rose to the fore with a game-high 23 points for the Lady Cadets, with Cierra Carpenter getting 8 points and Sam Lillemon 7 points and a dozen rebounds. Emily Armbruster had 5 points and 6 assists, Kelly Geis had 2 points, and Jackie Smith added a point and 3 swipes.
