WEST UNITY – It was just one point, but the Hilltop Lady Cadets made it count for something.
The Fayette Lady Eagles were on their way to winning the 2012 BBC Championship on October 11, and needed just one more Jamboree win to make it a clean sweep of all three events. Sabrina Brown of Edon finished first, but Madeline Routhier of Hilltop took second and Lauren Garrett fourth. With Megan Graber and Tori Johnson of Stryker placing fifth and sixth, Jill Stuckey of Fayette found herself isolated in third. That turn of events gave Hilltop a 48-49 edge in the points standings for the event, preventing the Lady Eagles from taking the BBC crown by means of a sweep.
Fayette won the championship with two wins out of three, with Hilltop taking second and Stryker third. Pettisville finished fourth, Edon placed fifth, and the understaffed North Central girls finished in sixth.
Brown, Routhier, Garrett and Stuckey were all named to the All-BBC First Team, along with Levi Cvikel of Edon, Melani Seiler of Fayette and Sam Shinhearl of Pettisville
