Five District 1 FFA Career Events Held In Area

Archbold – Five District 1 FFA Career Development Events (CDE) were recently held at various locations in the area.

The Floriculture Event included:  Plant Identification, Other Related Identification, a Written Test, Placing Classes of flowers, and Practicums (creating a boutonniere, a bud vase, etc). Area FFAs placing were: first – Genoa, second -tied – Pettisville and Four County, fourth – Fayette and fifth – West Unity. Area members placing in the top five were: fourth – Oliver Jones of Four County and fifth was Jenna Norman of Pettisville.

The Animal Management event is to identify animal breeds, products and equipment used in animal care. They took a practicum consisting of handling small animals and reptiles, cage care and product use. Area FFAs placing were: first place – Four County, fifth – Fayette and sixth – West Unity.

The Dairy Cattle Judging Event is an educational activity designed as a practical method of teaching students to select quality dairy cattle. Students were challenged with pedigree evaluation, sire selection, linear evaluation, a written test, placing classes and answering class questions.


Area FFAs placing were: first – Patrick Henry, second – Liberty Center, third – West Unity, fourth – Fairview, fifth – Edgerton, sixth – Fayette, seventh – Archbold, eighth – Edon, ninth – Tinora and tenth – Four County. Area members placing in the top five were: first – Grahm Rosebrook, Patrick Henry, second – Lilah Krueger, Liberty Center, third – Kinze Jaqua, Liberty Center, fourth -Brian Guillen, West Unity.

The focus of the Milk Quality and Products event is on the achievement of high-quality raw milk, federal milk marketing orders and attributes of selected products of milk. The student takes a written test, identify cheeses, and then distinguishes milk quality and safe milking equipment. They also identify dairy by-products and determine real and unreal milk products.

Area FFA’s placing were: first place – Holgate, second place – Evergreen, third place – Ayersville, fourth place – Delta, fifth place – Archbold, sixth place – Fayette, seventh place – Fairview and eighth place – Tinora. Area members placing in the top ten were: first – Jaxon Gray, Holgate, second – Callie Wyse, Evergreen, third – Catrina Hohenberger, Ayersville, fourth – Hannah Hall, Fayette, fifth – Zoie Brown, Fayette, sixth – Aiden Wagner, Holgate, seventh – Althea Spangler, Fairview, eighth – Kurt Krueger, Archbold, ninth – Brennan Stemen, Delta, and tenth, Joseph Okoes, Evergreen.


The Animal Behaviors and Husbandry Event gives a student the understanding of an animal’s biological needs, and indicators of differing levels of welfare and how to holistically evaluate different facilities, stockmanship and management. The area FFA that placed was Delta in second place.

CDEs (Career Development Events) are a motivating force that stimulates occupational interests in, and personal development of, high school students enrolled in school-based agricultural education programs.
