Fulton County recently marked its 175th birthday with a variety of events and activities held across the county. Organized by the Fulton County Historical Society, the celebration took place on April 1st and brought together residents and visitors to recognize this historic milestone.
Several local businesses and organizations participated, offering cake/cupcakes, giveaways, and historical exhibits for the community to enjoy.
The Fulton County Historical Society took the lead in organizing the festivities, making sure there was something for everyone.
Birthday cake was available at multiple locations, including Zimmerman’s Car Wash and Aquatek Water Conditioning in Wauseon, as well as the Village of Metamora and the Fulton County Museum.
At the museum, visitors could enjoy cake from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., along with free admission to explore the county’s history.
The Village of Metamora embraced the birthday spirit with plenty of opportunities for visitors to join the fun. Country Charm Cafe served slices of birthday cake, DM Designs handed out commemorative birthday koozies, and the Evergreen Community Library featured a historical display with free items.
Guests at Metamora State Bank enjoyed doughnuts and coffee, while the Village Office offered beef sticks with cheese. Several other businesses also took part in the fun.
The Fulton County Museum was also big draw, with more than 60 visitors stopping by before noon to enjoy cupcakes and take in the exhibits. The event gave attendees a chance to learn more about the county’s history and appreciate how it has changed over the years.
Senior citizens were also included in the celebration, with cake served to those receiving meals at the Senior Center and its extensions. Other locations across the county joined in, making sure the birthday spirit was shared far and wide.
The festivities don’t stop with just cake and treats. On April 14th and 15th, the Fulton County Soil and Water Conservation team will plant Princeton Elm trees in each township to mark the occasion.
A scavenger hunt selfie contest also kicked off, encouraging residents to visit as many locations on the Fulton County Heritage Trail as possible, with prizes for those who reach key milestones.
The celebration will continue throughout the year, including a photography contest in August during the county fair.
Additionally, The Village Reporter is preparing a special tribute piece highlighting the county’s history, featuring historic photos, insights from local students and senior residents, and more.
The celebration extends beyond a single day, with events and activities designed to engage the community and highlight the county’s history.
From special exhibits to community participation in the scavenger hunt and upcoming photography contest, the 175th birthday is a time for residents to connect with their local heritage.
The tribute piece being prepared by The Village Reporter will further preserve memories from the event, ensuring that this milestone is remembered for years to come.
