Manufacturing Day will be celebrated nationwide on Friday, October 2, 2015. Thousands of people throughout Northwest Ohio work in the manufacturing sector. The economic development offices of Williams, Paulding, Henry, Fulton and Defiance counties are pleased to celebrate this day to support employers throughout our counties that provide more than a billion dollars to the local economy on an annual basis.
The five local economic development offices have partnered with Northwest State Community College and high schools throughout each county to offer high school students the opportunity to learn more about the manufacturing environment and local manufacturing employers. More than fifty companies will be represented at the Manufacturing Day Event hosted at Northwest State Community College on October 2. High school students will learn about different types of high-tech equipment that local manufacturing employees use on a daily basis. They will also learn about the technical and high-skill jobs that are available and in high-demand at these companies.
Educators from Northwest State Community College will provide demonstrations to students on manufacturing techniques like welding and PLC. The objective of Manufacturing Day is to change the perception that many people have about manufacturing; the perception that careers in this sector dirty, low-paying and unsafe are simply a myth. Manufacturing today depends on skills in computers, programing, machinery and critical thinking among many others. Careers in the manufacturing sector can be well-paying and high-demand jobs where many technical skills are necessary.
A job fair, open to the general public, will also take place after the Manufacturing Day event. Anyone interested in exploring career opportunities within the manufacturing sector can speak with representatives from more than fifty companies throughout the five-county area from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Northwest State Community College on October 2.
