COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Ohio Governor Mike DeWine issued the following statement following the death of former United States Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor:

“Justice Sandra Day O’Connor was a pioneer and a trailblazer. The daughter of a rancher, she would become the first woman to be elected Majority Leader in a state legislature and, of course, our nation’s first female U.S. Supreme Court Justice.”

“Many have admired Justice O’Connor’s tenure on the Court for her commitment to fairness and civility, as well as her desire to promote civics in education.”

“Fran and I extend our condolences to Justice O’Connor’s sons Scott, Brian, and Jay; her grandchildren; and to all of her extended family and colleagues.”
