(Owned & Operated Buckenmeyer Farms)
Veteran

William M. “Bill” Buckenmeyer, a dedicated farmer and beloved family man, passed away Tuesday evening, November 28, 2023, at The Toledo Hospital, with his loving wife and family at his bedside.

Born on January 12, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio, Bill was the son of loving parents Theodore and Rose (Loeffler) Buckenmeyer, who instilled in him a strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility.

He attended St. Mary’s school in Assumption before graduating from Metamora in 1963.

From an early age, it was clear that Bill had a passion for farming. He owned and operated Buckenmeyer Farms, where he poured his heart and soul into his work.

Tending to the land, driving tractors and semis and operating the day-to-day duties of the business. It was not only his livelihood, but his passion.

While farming consumed much of his time, Bill always made sure to prioritize his family. He cherished moments spent with his loved ones and created countless memories that will forever be treasured.

Whether it was playing Euchre or simply engaging in lively conversations. Bill never met a stranger. His friendly nature allowed him to connect with people from all walks of life.

Bill particularly enjoyed attending farm auctions, where he often told others, “if you want it… just buy it!”

Bill’s connection to the community extended beyond the farm. He selflessly served over 20 years as Richfield Township Trustee, demonstrating his commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.

He proudly served in the United States Army Reserves and was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post #306 in Assumption. He also was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish.

Bill will be deeply missed by many friends and family who were blessed to have shared in his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Darlene Buckenmeyer; second wife, Luanne Buckenmeyer; sister, Donna Mossing, and brother, Donald Buckemeyer.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 8 years, Elaine; his children, Brenda Buckenmeyer, Donald (Kelli) Buckenmeyer, Laura VandeSande, and Bill (Lara) Buckenmeyer. His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren, Melissa, Kelsey, Emily, Justin (Brooke), Scott (Cierra), and Isabel; and four great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by his stepchildren, Eric (Adriana) Fowler and Vanessa (Craig) Voelzke along with four step-grandchildren. Bill’s sister, Virginia Jones, and lots of nieces and nephews also mourn his loss.

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 3rd from 3 to 8 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 pm. Visitation will continue Monday, December 4th from 9 to 10 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am., with Fr. Walter Tuscano presiding. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow a St. Mary’s Cemetery.
